Terraced Falls

While in eastern Idaho, my family wanted to see as much water as possible. As you will see below, we saw a lot of water features. This is Terraced Falls, near old faithful. We went to Yellowstone and Harriman State Park.

Great Fountain Geyser

This is great fountain geyser, which can be found in the lower geyser basin. We drove up as it was going off and I was able to capture this great photo of the water in motion. I love the clouds in the sky and the dark trees in the back ground.

Harriman State Park

I captured this in Harriman State Park. If you live the Rexburg area I would highly recommend going to this State park. The vistas are breath taking and it never seems to be over crowed with people.

Silver Lake Drive

The lake that can be found in the photograph above is called Silver Lake, in Harriman State Park. I love how this road curves off into a forest. I think this may be my favorite picture I have had the opportunity to capture this semester. Fun fact, my house growing up was on a street named called Silver Lake Drive.

Another one

I used this leaf to blur the back ground of Silver Lake. I touched up the background and made the clouds slightly lighter. Please let me what you think in the comments below.

Hayden Valley

I have been to Yellowstone many times in my young life, but I have never seen Hayden Valley quite as exquisite as this. The dark clouds looming ominously above your head, the snow capped mountains in the back ground with the ground covered in decaying leafs.

Bison

The night before traveling into Yellowstone, I showed my family all the horrifying videos of cars and people getting too close to wildlife in Yellowstone. This was a mistake, my nephew freaked out when there was a bison 10 meters from the road. I defiantly learned my lesson their.

Coyote

Can toy find the coyote in this picture? Hint: its near the tree.

Mesa Falls

I love how this shot turned out. I edited out like 10 people and a catwalk. I also darkened the darks and lightened the light. I think this turned out great.

Down River

For this picture, I took the same edits as the Mesa Falls edit and used them here with one exception. I took out a balloon that was in one of the trees. Do you think you can spot my bad editing job?

Tell me what you think of my shots below.

Familia

Tatum

All of the photos in this collection are of my family. This is my nephew Tatum, he has a unique twinkle in his eye. I took this photo at harlequin lake in Yellowstone. A

ODIN

This is my other nephew, Odin. He is a true God of Thunder; everywhere he walks, his presence is known.

MoM & Odin

My saint of a mother takes care of these two. My sister has trouble with the law and is unable to take care of them. We are so blessed to have these boys in our family, they keep us on our toes.

Trying

The next few pictures I thought were funny and should be put on here. Tatum thought it would be so funny if he jumped in front of the camera while I was taking a picture of my father.

I hope you enjoyed that little detour, we had so much fun taking these pictures. But we should get back on track, back to the assignment.

Unknown

I was able to get three different family shots, but this one is by far my favorite. I love how Tate isn’t even looking at the camera. He has such a silly smile.

Aubrey

If you have been to my blog before, I am sure you have seen my wife. I took this in Harriman State Park.

West Yellastone

I don’t think you can tell by this photograph, but my wife did not want me to take this. I don’t know why, but it seems she is out of focus. While in photoshop she is in focus, does anyone know why this is happening?

Not that creative

I love how this levitation turned out. I took a few hours to figure out, but I am so proud of it.

My wife and I love to hike, while we were in Yellowstone hiking I took this. I hope I can one day work at Salomon.

This is my light painting photo, I brought up all my snow gear because my parents told me it was going to snow… it never did. But I was able to get this fun shot with all the snow gear between my wife and I.

This is the CONCEPTUAL shot. I won’t to know in the comments what you think I am trying to portray. I used three iPads to get the pink light effect.

I put my parent’s blue eyes as the background of the paint in their hotel room. I like how it turned out.

WORKFLOW

I usually don’t do this, but I wanted to tell a story in the next few weeks in my Blog posts. This week’s story will be pictures I took while on my excursion. I went to West Yellowstone, Yellowstone, Harrimon state Park, Mesa Falls, and Rexburg. These were all taken in a 25 hour period and it was a blast to capture such great shots.

GETTING Started

I took this while I was planning my trip to Yellowstone. My family had been planning to go for a few months now, but I needed to find places I could go to take some shots. Planning is very important, to get all the shots I needed, I rented two lenses, a tripod, and two lights.

WEsT YELLOWSTONE

This is a picture of a chair in our room in West Yellowstone. I love the texture on the wall and the blurred chair. I also love the light that is coming from the lamp, it brings in character to the shot.

On the Road

Took this while on the road in Yellowstone, it rained pretty much the whole time we were there. I loved the dreary colors and the fall chill in the air.

Found Gysers

I love how you can see the texture in the wood to the right. The crinkles in my dads new jacket. My family walking away from me, they were done with me taking so many photos.

GUYZOR

My nephew Tate kept calling these GUYZOR’s, it was so funny. It looks us 15 minutes to just to figure out what he was trying to say. I love how this one turned out.

Aubs Falls

My wife Aubrey always tries to balance on stuff, with poor balance. It’s funny to see her try. Here is this weeks shot of her trying to balance on a bench at Mesa Falls.

LEAVING

I took this photo as we were trying to clean up our room. I love the light this lamp gave off. Kind of a basic lamp but cool lighting with a camera.

ODIN

This is Odin, he wouldn’t let me edit my photos. I asked him to not touch me, he stopped. But found a new way to annoy me by running around me. So I blinded him with the flash on my camera.

Start Editing

Took this while editing, was playing with my camera settings. Whenever I need to concentrate, I listen to music. This is a picture of my EarPods and iPad.

The Final Edits

This is the last picture I took while on my excursion. I felt like I needed to see myself in this series. I love how you can still see my hair and it thinning.

Fall Field

COLLAGE

Making collages is kind of difficult, but I like how mine turned out. I can see how making one, in it of it self is an art from and I defiantly don’t feel that I have the eye for it.

Palette

This picture I think sets the scene beautifully for what is to come in my 9 photos. This was a wide shot I took to give you a sense for where I am and the color palette.

Framed Tree

I tired frame the tree within the chair, it didn’t turn out as well as I wish it would have. I do feel that it isn’t bad. It’s just simply not good, its okay.

Legs

I used this chair I have because I love the texture and grit it has. I think that this shot shows how the paint has been rubbed off from use. I love how I was able to get the blurred back ground with the legs in the foreground.

Blurr

I also love the blur I was able to get, I tried to focus in on the last of the green leafs I could find in this field. The chair blurred looks amazing. I also love the edits I did I this

Above

I also tried to blur the chair in this shot and get a detailed ground shot.

Spin

I love how this turned out, it humanizes all the fall colors and brings a pop of color to the scene.

Texture

For this shot, I got as close as I could to capture the texture. I love the grass on the far left side of this photo, it gives you a sense that your in a field

reTextured

I tried to put the fish scales on the white part of the cut out but I couldn’t figure out how to do it. So I put the fish scales on the cut outs of the wood instead. It still is kind of cool, silly with scales on it but fun never the less

End

This is the end shot, I wanted to end on a up beat note. Showing the end scene, the dreary ski in the back ground. The white chair empty as if someone has just left it.

Thinking

1. Thinking – 2. October 4, 2020, 5:05, near Swan Valley Highway – 3. 35 mm – 4. f/16 – 5. 1/125  –
6. Canon EOS REBEL T5 using a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens

“Thinking” was taken just off of Swan Valley Highway on October 4, 2020. I found this great estuary with a rock overhang. I love the mountain pocking out of the background with the leaves changing in the foreground.

Old Can

1. Old Can – 2. October 4, 2020, 6:41, Palisade State Park – 3. 18 mm – 4. f/3.5 – 5. 1/400  –
6. Canon EOS REBEL T5 using a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens

While looking around Palisade state park, we found this boat launch that was a few hundred feet from the water’s edge. I thought this was silly so we got out of the car and walked to the water. I found this old can, I love the texture it has, the grit it shows.

Dam Shadow

1. Dam Shadow – 2. October 4, 2020, 5:56, Palisades Dam – 3. 18 mm – 4.f/22 – 5. 1/30  –
6. Canon EOS REBEL T5 using a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens

While galavanting around palisade reservoir, my wife and I stopped at a RV dumping station to get out and walk around. I saw this tree and snapped this shot. I had to take out the power lines above.

Tangled Branch

1. Tangled Branch – 2. October 4, 2020, 7:10, near Palisade State Park – 3. 18 mm – 4.f/3.5 – 5. 1/30  –
6. Canon EOS REBEL T5 using a Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens

This was one of the last pictures I was able to capture with the failing light. I was trying to take a picture of a tree above these branches and while looking at my camera settings, I realized what a great picture it good be so I turned down my F/stop and was able to get the blured back ground.

END

In Motion

There is a church with big grass fields and a large parking lot to skate in right behind our house. We go they’re often to play games and to longboard. These series of pictures will be depicting by my wife, aubrey as she rides around the parking lot and our neighborhood.

6. Canon EOS REBEL T5 – tripod

The photo above is one of the first photos I took where I felt like time stopped. Her hair was flowing in the wind and she was mid-push. My photo details are as follows: The End – 2. 9/23/2020, 11:46, 845 W 7th S, Rexburg, ID 83440 – 3. 23.0 mm – 4. F/6.3 – 5. 1/1000 – 6. Canon EOS REBEL T5 – tripod.

6. Canon EOS REBEL T5 – tripod

This was captured after countless attempts to get the blurred motion. I think it turned out quite well. My wife is blurred as she sped past me, her hair was flapping in the wind. I like how you can still see her leg mid-push. Photo details are as followed: Crouch to Blurr 1 – 2. 9/23/2020, 12:01, 845 W 7th S, Rexburg, ID 83440 – 3. 18.0 mm – 4. F/22 – 5. 1/10 – 6. Self Motivation

Narrow Apetur

I choose this Photograph by Darwis Alwan because I thought it showed the narrow aperture. To my Knowledge a narrow aperture is where there is a little space for something to be in focus. In the photo shown above, the woman is in the small space and everything behind her is blurred out.

Wide Aperture

I chose this photo by Wherbson Rodrigues because It shows the wide aperture. There isn’t really anything in the photograph that is blurry. The back ground moves away from the photo

Fast Shutter Speed

I choose this picture Photo by Jan Laugesen  because I thought it showed a fast shutter speed. The picture of the horse is very crisp and clear. Nothing is blurred on it even though it is mid-stride.

Slow Shutter Speed

This photograph by Алексей Васильев is of a carousel moving. It has a slower shutter speed thus the image came out blurry. Its hard to make out any detail what so ever just because of how slow the shutter speed is. This demonstrates that if you want a crisp clear photo, you need to use a faster shutter speed.

My Fashion Image

I love fashion and I think this image by Godisable Jacob shows us that fashion can be artistic. If you notice, the subject is in the narrow aperture window. The background of the image is blurred out because of this narrow aperture. I love this photo because to me it shows anyone can be stylish on and budget and still have a great photo come out of it.

Sundance Fall Transition 2018 Catalog Cover
https://www.artisancolour.com/portfolio/portfolio-items/sundance/

This Magazine cover was created by Artisan Colour. They work with the sundance catalog to create their magazines. This one was made for the summer 2018 catalog that they sent to there subscribing customers.

Analysis

Notice how her head is aligned to be in the top third of the photo but it centered. while the rest of her body is going off to the right twisting slightly. The alignment in the photo works great with the decorative metal pole in the background. Even her eyes seem aligned.

Colour

The colour in the shirt of classic sundance catalog colours, they are oh a lighter hue. The colors around this lady complement the shirt, wrist jewelry and neck jewelry she is wearing. The colours of the stamp on the bottom left of the cover also go along with the colours of the photo.

Typography

The type in this magazine cover shows that the creator was aware of the colours in the photo. The lady’s shirt & jewelry, are all different colors but the colour of the type complements the cover. This cover I would say is pleasing to the eye.

MY AD

Photo by Wellington Lacerda from Pexels

Design

The proximity on this ad is going from top to bottom, with the words squished at the bottom of the magazine cover. On the left, we have almost a list, giving the viewer important information about the catalog inside.

Colour

The colours found in this magazine cover are blue-tints. I think they may be analogous, but I am not quite sure. The man’s jean jacket has a white fur inside showing similar colours to his skin tone, I think they lightened his skin to be similar to the fur. His white shirt is of the same hue as the window behind him.

Typography

I tried to match the type in the original photo to the best of my abilities, but I may have not done the best. I do think the type that I circled compliments the colour of the jean jacket. I also think the placement of the type works better for this photo, it was hard to find one that matched the original photo. But the type I think looks great. I used both serif and san serif type.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I have found it hard to match not only a picture but the type someone else has used. It was a fun challenge, I do feel like I should have fixed the squish of the type at the bottom of my ad. I could see sundance using the ad I made for a winter catalog cover. I think it works just as well as the example.

Jay-Z by Ale

I am analyzing this magazine for a Communications class. We are talking about type face and what is usually done in it.

I love the Large J in the center of the page to the right, It’s a bold move. The way you are able to read through the J is amazing. The fade is great, and its not too distracting. I also like how they used the colour red in the J to match the red on the far right. It gives the black and white good contrast and complements the page.

Big J

The difference from the oldstyle font circled in green to the san serif font circled in yellow is a big one. Just like Jay-Z who is known to be a big man with a big personality. The large J in the middl of the right hand page seems to jump out at the reader. Typically oldstyle font and san serif aren’t grouped together, let alone on the same page.

Different types of type…

If you notice the red JAY – Z is a san serif, you can tell by the way the J and Z are shaped. They both don’t go skinny or fat, they stay consistently the same throughout the entire letter. Whereas the Exciting which is circled in purple shows us that the lettering is of the oldstyle font. This font was popularized in the old westerns made in the 50’s and 60’s.

the 5 O

Depth of field is shown in this photo. The photo is almost like a mug shot with the red on one side of his face with the more blue lighting on the other side of his face. Telling us that he is on the wrong side of the law, like the lights on a police car. . But yet the back ground is still almost blank with the lighting just hinting at that. Jay-Z is front and center, he is of supreme importance in this article, he is somone not to be trifled with.

In the pictures that I showed above I tried to have the back ground blurred. It wasn’t easy honestly and I probably didn’t do a good job, I am no photographer. But I tried to blur the back ground, with the cool lighting effect like on the photo and then I tried to align myself to the same orientation as Jay-Z was. All in all I think they turned out good.
